Advice on knee problems

If a specific question is needed from one of the Consultant teams, please email or telephone the appropriate secretary on the 'Contact Us' page.

If you have reviewed a patient and you consider them to have either an acute knee infection or significant trauma such as a fracture, please refer your patient urgently to the Emergency Department at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where they can be referred to the Orthopaedic On Call team.

You may want to refer a patient with a traumatic knee injury that you do not feel is necessary to refer to A&E. These conditions include possible knee ligament injuries, meniscal tear or knees that are locking (where the knee is jamming in a bent position). These patients may be suitable for referral to the acute knee clinic. Referrals can be made to this clinic via the DRSS service. We will aim to see your patient within the next few weeks.
